Scenes from the backyard

It's not really my backyard. I have to drive up the hill then hike for half an hour to get here. This is Coal Creek Falls which tumbles merrily down the other side of the mountain on which I live. My mountain is also home to cougars, bears, old prospectors, and bathing hobos (I thought the noise coming from the creek was a bear, but then I saw the sweatpants draped over a nearby bush. Then I saw the campsite with caution tape around it. Then I ran.)
I took these when I first moved here. The falls are HUGE now. Not that it matters. It might for the bathing hobos, however.

Extra Polympic Oninsula

It was pretty cold and rainy on the coast and it didn't let up till we were on the ferry heading back to Seattle the next day. We slept in the back of the truck since it was so rainy we didn't even want to put the tent up.

We walked on the beach for a few miles and got completely soaked. Thank heavens for campfire! Then I burned a giant hole in my shoe. Curse you fire!
We decided to drive around the rest of the peninsula the next day and take the ferry back, so we stopped at Ruby Beach. There was a huge river that ran into the ocean here with amazing craggy rocks sticking up on the beach and in the water. We saw some pretty cool stuff driving around the rest of the peninsula, and I am happy to report that there is an entire block of Twilight shops in Forks, along with a sign that says "You are now entering the Twilight Zone."

Polympic Oninsula

Phew! I almost lost the password for this blog too. Thank goodness my password is my name! (It's not.) Who here likes pictures? Me! I have a ton here of glorious Washington. Not as awesome as glorious Utah (there's no fry sauce) but still moderately glorious.
These were taken on our trip through the olympic peninsula. We hiked through the Quinault rainforest, then camped that night on

Quinault Lake. There were a ton of huge waterfalls and ginormous trees. There's a pic of us standing next to the largest spruce tree in the world! Then we drove to the coast and camped on a cliff above the beach (the close up of Chris and Rocky). Story continued on next post with more pics.
